Why oil-only

Selective absorbents for hydrocarbon risk

Oil-only spill kits use white hydrophobic absorbents that soak up petroleum-based liquids while repelling water. This makes them the right choice for fuel stores, vehicle depots, transformer areas, and anywhere you handle diesel, engine oil, hydraulic fluid, or similar hydrocarbons — especially outdoors or in areas where water may be present.

Contact us
What liquids do oil spill kits absorb?
Oil-only kits absorb petroleum-based liquids including diesel, petrol, engine oil, hydraulic fluid, cutting oil, and similar hydrocarbons. They are designed to repel water, making them ideal for outdoor use or areas with standing water.
Can I use an oil spill kit for chemical spills?
No. Oil-only absorbents are not suitable for acids, alkalis, or aggressive chemicals. Using the wrong absorbent on a chemical spill could be ineffective and potentially dangerous. Use a chemical spill kit for those risks.
Why are oil-only absorbents white?
The colour coding is an industry standard. White absorbents indicate oil-only use. This helps workers quickly identify the correct kit during a spill response. Yellow typically indicates chemical kits, and grey or blue indicates universal kits.
Are oil spill kits suitable for outdoor use?
Yes — in fact, oil-only kits are specifically suited to outdoor environments because the absorbents repel water. They will float on water and selectively absorb hydrocarbons, which makes them effective in rain, near drains, or on wet surfaces.
