Spill Pallets & Bunds

Containment is the cheapest part of a spill response, because it is the part that stops the spill becoming an incident. A bunded pallet catches a leaking drum before anyone notices the drum is leaking. Where you store oils or chemicals, bunded containment is usually expected by your insurer and by the Environment Agency, and a pallet costs a fraction of a pollution clean-up.

Do I legally need a bund under my drums?
If you store oil above the thresholds in the oil storage regulations, secondary containment is a requirement rather than good practice. Outside those thresholds it is still what an insurer and an auditor will expect to see, and it is what the Environment Agency will ask about after a pollution incident. The practical answer for most sites is yes.
What size bund do I need?
Sized on the largest container it holds, usually 110% of it, or 25% of the total stored volume where that is greater. A four drum pallet holding 205 litre drums therefore needs a meaningful sump, not a shallow tray. Each product here lists its capacity so you can check it against what you store.
What is a collapsible bund for?
Temporary containment. It folds flat, so it travels in a van and comes out for a delivery, a decant, a plant service or a job on someone else\u2019s site. It is not a substitute for permanent containment where you store liquids every day.
